May 2017 Club Competition: British Beers - KC - 03-17-2017 08:52 AM This event is inspired by the 1844 British Encyclopaedia of Domestic Economy which contains extensive sections of the state of malting and brewing at that time in history Any British style beer is acceptable for this club competition RE: May 2017 Club Competition: British Beers - KC - 04-21-2017 08:41 AM There was a question as to which BJCP categories qualify as "British Beer." Any beer you can fit to one of these:
[11A] Ordinary Bitter [11B] Best Bitter [11C] Strong Bitter [12a] British Golden Ale [12c] English IPA [13] Brown British Beer [13A] Dark Mild [13B] British Brown Beer [13C] English Porter [14] SCOTTISH ALE [14A] Scottish Light [14B] Scottish Heavy [14C] Scottish Export [15] IRISH BEER [15A] Irish Red [15B] Irish Stout [15C] Irish Extra Stout [16] DARK BRITISH BEER [16A] Sweet Stout [16B] Oatmeal Stout [16C] Tropical Stout [16D] Foreign Extra Stout [17] STRONG BRITISH ALE [17A] British Strong Ale [17B] Old Ale [17C] Wee Heavy [17D] English Barleywine [27]HISTORICAL BEER London Brown Ale, or specify a different historical beer style that is not described elsewhere in these guidelines. In the case of a style that has changed substantially over the years (such as Porter or Stout), the entrant may specify an existing BJCP style as well as an era (e.g., 1820 English Porter). When the entrant specifies any style not on the BJCP-supplied list, the entrant must provide a description of the style for the judges in sufficient detail to allow the beer to be judged. If a beer is entered with just a style name and no description, it is very unlikely that judges will understand how to judge it. Sorry I missed the fun last night. I got my scoresheets. Thanks for the feedback. Looks like we also had some new faces too!
