RE: Wiza Collaborative Club SMASH Recipe
On 4/20 we held our malt trials. Weyermann Vienna malt was voted the base malt for the recipe. Thanks to all who contributed, tasted, and voted.
Official results: 15 points - German Vienna 14 points - Irish Stout 6 points (tie) - American Vienna and Golden Promise 5 points - Superior Pilsner 4 points (tie) - Schill Pilsner and Maris Otter 3 points - German Pale 2 points - Northwest Pale 1 point - Schill Kolsch 0 points - German Pilsner Points were awarded to each person's three top choices, 3 points for favorite, 2 points for 2nd favorite, 1 point for 3rd favorite. With 21 total points, Vienna was quite popular. Irish Stout, Maris Otter, Golden Promise, and both Pales are all British-styled pale malts. Those totaled 29 points. The Pilsens weren't received nearly as well, but it's worth noting that blending 2 parts Pils to 1 part Vienna brought out some excellent complementary flavors - moreso than blending attempts with other malt pairs. |
